Would you be interested in taking part in a study weekend?
Over the weekend of July 29 and 30, eight to ten people will come together to discuss Stephen Batchelor’s recent book, Secular Buddhism, Imagining the Dharma in an Uncertain World (Yale University Press, 2017).
A selection of previously published short pieces with new texts at start and end, each participant will choose one of the 20 chapters, write a short paper outlining the chapter with their views of it, and present this paper.
Following the discussion, participants may choose to update their paper to include elements of what was discussed and, with their agreement, this final paper may be posted to secularbuddhism.org.nz, allowing us an opportunity to discuss it further.
◼︎ The book
One copy of Secular Buddhism, Imagining the Dharma in an Uncertain World is in Wellington Central Library. It can be bought from Unity Books, BookDepository.com or any good bookshop.
◼︎ The venue
We’ve booked the Crombie Lounge at the Home of Compassion in Island Bay. The Crombie wing has six bedrooms for those coming into Wellington who need somewhere to stay.
As with all One Mindful Breath events, there’s no fixed fee to attend, so no-one will be turned away because they can’t afford to take part. Take a look at this page to find out more about how we make this work.
On both days, please bring something to eat and drink for a shared lunch. Tea, instant coffee, sugar, milk and biscuits will be provided. On the Saturday night, participants may choose to join the others for dinner in a restaurant.
◼︎ Secure your place
Numbers are limited to ensure all participants have an opportunity to voice their views and have a good discussion. If you have any questions, and to book a place, speak with Ramsey Margolis at a One Mindful Breath Wednesday evening session, phone him on 021 97 3531, or send him an email. Ramsey will be facilitating this study weekend.
